The Decision Not To Protect Vladimir Tarasenko

from Jwemy Rutherford of The Athletic,

While the Blues’ protected list for the upcoming Seattle expansion draft won’t officially be revealed until Sunday, Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko is not on the list, according to multiple league sources....

The decision is disappointing to Tarasenko, but a source says it’s not the top reason Tarasenko is upset with the organization. Two months after the right winger asked the Blues for a trade, and 10 days after it was first reported by The Athletic, the source says Tarasenko can’t believe he hasn’t been moved by Blues general manager Doug Armstrong.

Armstrong has told Tarasenko’s camp, according to a source, that no teams are interested in the player, who has scored 30-plus goals in five of his nine NHL seasons but has since had three shoulder operations. The source added that Los Angeles, New Jersey, Carolina and Boston, among other teams, have each expressed interest and were willing to take on Tarasenko’s $7.5 million salary-cap hit for the next two seasons, but Armstrong has not found a suitable return.

Agree. He’s got legit concerns and they’re making him sound like a diva. Another enigmatic Russian, I guess. It’s a worthwhile risk to select him, unless STL has screwed up and left a good young player I don’t know about exposed.

It appears Dunn won’t be among the three defensemen protected by the Blues. Those are expected to be Colton Parayko, Justin Faulk and Torey Krug.

League sources say Armstrong attempted to move Dunn but might not have received more than a third-round pick in return.

ARE YOU F’ING KIDDING ME? The Wings can pay a 2nd plus Panik with 50% retention for 30 year old Leddy who nets 3 a year, but didn’t make a 2nd round offer on a 24 year old LHD that can put up 10 goals a year? Plus Dunn still has 2 years of team control left.

Yeah, the Leddy trade is a head scratcher for sure. I would be fine with it if Yzerman did not give up a pick and there wasn’t other just as good options available. Look what the Isles gave up to move Ladd. I know a little different scenarios but come on!
