The David Perron Trade Talk

11/26/2014 at 7:32am EST

via TSN,

The Edmonton Oilers and Columbus Blue Jackets, two of the worst teams in the league, are working together to make a trade happen to improve their fortunes.

TSN Hockey analyst Aaron Ward is reporting that Oilers winger David Perron and Blue Jackets centre Artem Anisimov are the players being discussed for a potential trade, but there could be more players involved.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger first reported over the weekend that the Oilers were looking to deal Perron and said general manager Craig MacTavish is looking for a top line centre in return for the 26-year-old.

Perron has two goals and eight assists in 22 games this season with the Oilers, his second year with the team. The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native has two years left on his current contract.

from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet,

Both Columbus president John Davidson and general manager Jarmo Kekalainen were in St. Louis with Perron. So was Montreal’s assistant GM, Scott Mellanby, who spent two seasons on the Blues’ bench.

The Canadiens’ interest in Perron has been reported before. From what I understand, the biggest obstacle for Montreal might be what the Oilers need — centres and defenders. Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin says you can never have enough of either.

He just acquired Bryan Allen and Sergei Gonchar on defence, and isn’t exactly overflowing with middlemen. It’s unlikely the Oilers would want a smallish player, needing bulk to battle the brawniest of the Western Conference.

Another situation to watch out for: Pittsburgh, looking for wingers. I’d thought the Senators, too, especially if they give up on trying to sign Marc Methot. He’d be perfect for Edmonton, but one source threw cold water on that, indicating Ottawa is looking for size as much as anything else.
