from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
The Stars still are a team trying to learn to win in the NHL, so they looked to the Chicago Blackhawks dynasty last summer and borrowed a few things. Stars general manager Jim Nill traded for veteran Patrick Sharp and then signed defenseman Johnny Oduya and goalie Antti Niemi as free agents.
Sharp had been a part of three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks, Oduya two and Niemi one.
It was just one game, but the Stars on Tuesday showed some winning muscles. Dallas was both patient and aggressive in a 4-0 victory against the Blackhawks (20-12-4) before a sold out American Airlines Center in a bit of a playoff-like atmosphere.
“It was a loud building tonight and the way both teams played showed that,” said Niemi. “We played real hard and didn't give them anything. Especially in these games against our division, that's how we want to play every time.”
