The Dallas Stars Dismiss Head Coach Jim Montgomery For Unprofessional Conduct

via the Dallas Stars,

Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that Jim Montgomery has been dismissed as the team's Head Coach. Effective immediately, Rick Bowness, who has served as Assistant Coach since June 22, 2018, will assume the role of Interim Head Coach for the team.

Additionally, Derek Laxdal, who was serving as the Head Coach of the Texas Stars, will be added to Bowness' staff as Assistant Coach. Neil Graham has been named Head Coach of the Texas Stars. He was serving as Texas' Assistant Coach.

Statement from Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill:
"The Dallas Stars expect all of our employees to act with integrity and exhibit professional behavior while working for and representing our organization. This decision was made due to unprofessional conduct inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of the Dallas Stars and the National Hockey League."

Pierre LeBrun tweet,

I’m told the NHL was aware of the situation with Jim Montgomery even before Gary Bettman met the media here last night to announce the league’s 4-point plan, but that Montgomery’s dismissal does not fall under the auspices of that plan. Not related to it apparently.

Sean Shapiro tweet,

Jim Nill said will not discuss the incident out of respect for those involved. Did say it had nothing to do with the recent points from the NHL BOG meeting. Also said no other employees involved. There was no criminal investigation involved

Calling BS on all of this.

He’s fired because of the recent movement.

If it’s not player related - it’s likely something along the lines of drugs, alcohol, gambling, harassment, something sex-related…

It’s nuts to have such a great, high profile job and then blow it because you can’t act like a normal person.

I’m hearing that it’s alcohol-related, some friends of mine in Dallas say Montgomery has a problem controlling himself and there’s been numerous times he’s been in trouble that they have hidden. I’m being told that he did a radio interview and was hammered during the interview I’m getting this from friends in Dallas

The theory regarding The Ticket interview is pretty much refuted on the Stars fan sites.

It sounds more personal…. at least one guy knows what happened here.  https://www.sbnation.com/users/cwhterrapin#activity
