from Mike Chambers of the Denver Post,
Patience prevailed on Thursday night at Ball Arena.
The Avalanche was determined to keep shooting at the Nashville net that goalie Connor Ingram manned, and after 49 consecutive saves by the 25-year-old rookie, Colorado finally got the second one past him.
Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar got it done. He had a game-high 12 shots, and the last one made all the difference. The Norris Trophy candidate scored at 8:31 into overtime to give the Avalanche a 2-1 victory in Game 2 of the first-round series.
“Give credit to their goalie, he played well. He was making the saves that he needed to make for them,” said Makar, who fed the puck to forward Nico Sturm and scored off Sturm’s rebound between the circles. “I tried to just throw it low and luckily it went in, but it was overall just a good effort by the guys to keep getting everything to the net.”
Ingram, making his first NHL playoff start after coming off the bench in Colorado’s 7-2 romp in Game 1, was spectacular in making 49 saves. They all came after allowing Nathan MacKinnon’s early goal on Colorado’s first shot of the game.
