from the Boston Bruins,
Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, September 29, that the club has signed defenseman Torey Krug and forward Reilly Smith to one-year contracts through the 2014-15 season, each worth an annual cap figure of $1.4 million.

Dude’s good. Definitely a steal.

You call that a steal?!!
Dig this:
Kyle Quincey: 2 yrs, $8.5M.
(Meaning Kenny could have waited and put an offer sheet to Krug for half of what he paid KQ and maybe got him?)

The Bruins may not be forced to make a trade now.
By putting Marc Savard on LTIR they will be just under the cap.

Haha I can dig it MS.
Good point Paul. That’s what I was thinking. I was very interested to see how the B’s were going to handle the cap this year. Won’t happen, but I want Boychuk on the Wings more than anything. He’s exactly what they need IMO.
I miss Stuart :(

Sort of unrelated - I just noticed on capgeek, what the crap are the Flyers doing/going to do?
$-5M? Yowza.

TP, I believe they will place Pronger on LTIR, giving them just enough cap room.

With Krug and Smith on the roster and Savard on LTIR, the Bruins have 12 forwards and 8 defensemen with about $500K in cap space.
Add Ryan Spooner to the mix in order to make it a 23-man roster (while carrying 2 goalies), and they’re $200K over the cap.
The Bruins are not going to go into the season carrying only 12 forwards and they don’t have enough cap space to add the league minimum salary. they COULD get away without making any trade, but I severely doubt it.
