from Peter Botte of the New York Daily News,
Even if Capuano makes silly cracks at the super-mean reporters who dare ask him about fans calling for his firing, wondering whether it's their "relatives up there" doing the chanting. And even if the Isles' always-oversensitive PR squad feels the need to bark at media members for actually asking the coach what he feels about the paying customers' calls for his job (yes, that really happened).
But don't think for a slushy-iced second that 11th-year general manager Garth Snow also doesn't deserve his share of the blame for what suddenly is looking like an ill-timed, step-back year in the first season under new ownership. And lest we forget, with no clearer a future concerning the arena situation in Brooklyn than we witnessed throughout the final so-many seasons at Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders' front office and coaching staff certainly never have been averse to using injuries and arena woes as a crutch, nor have they ever minded being patted on the back — or let's face it, doing the heavy patting themselves — for any small accomplishment that teams in theirs and other sports would barely even consider to be a big deal.
You know, things such as simply reaching the playoffs a few times. Or yes, yes, yes, even finally advancing a single round in the postseason for the first time in a generation.
