The Battles Between Ryan Kesler And Ryan Johansen

from Tim Campbell of NHL.com,

While the two centers were waiting for opening faceoff, Kesler used his stick to jab Johansen in the leg, knocking him off balance before the puck was dropped.

When it was over and the Ducks had a 5-3 victory to tie the best-of-7 series 1-1, Johansen was somewhat incredulous at Kesler's tactics.

Game 3 is at Nashville on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVA Sports).

"I mean if I … he just blows my mind, watching what's going through his head out there," Johansen said. "Like his family and friends watching him play; I don't know how you cheer for a guy like that. It just doesn't make sense how he plays the game.

"I'm just trying to go out there and play hockey and it [stinks] when you've got to pull a stick out of your groin every shift."

Johansen was asked if he's encountered any other opponent who goes as far with defensive tactics as Kesler.

"Oh no. Not at all," he said. "He doesn't do anything that makes sense. He's just … he thinks he's getting under guys' skin, but he's just … I don't know what he's doing. Really, I can't even put a finger on it."

I don’t know all of what Kesler is doing, but it seems to be working…

With lots and lots of help from the refs.

Kesler strikes me as the kind of guy who’s at least as big an a-hole
off the ice as he is on it.

People always say things about agitating players like “you’d
love him if he was on your team”.

But there’s something about Kesler that’s just gross.

Good hockey player, yes. We all know that.

Great book bookend with Corey Perry, personality-wise.

What both have in common, beyond relentlessly, shamelessly
dirty play, and willingness to bend if not break any rules in sight,
is that neither is a very “honest” player when it comes to
being accountable for how they play.

That’s what made Max Domi dropping Kesler with one upper cut so deserved:
Kesler thought he was picking on an undersized rookie and got caught.

Just keep producing, Johansen. Deprive Kesler of a Cup and have the last laugh.

I actually thought kesler looked really whiny and irritated last night. And when they caught him in the face with a high stick he was astonished someone would do that to him!  I hope they get under his skin. I just can’t stand the guy

Added a GIF to the post on why Johansen needs to keep his head on a swivel.

I’m not a fan of either team but I’m learning to dislike the Ducks.  They get away with some nasty business.

Ray Ferraro tweets,

Didn’t love Johansen’s comments as it sounds like whining but he does have a point. His job is to score, but

if Kesler can take liberties with no penalties ever called what can he do? Can slash Kesler back but that doesn’t help Johansen score.

That about sums it up. And you can throw Gutsless into that category as well. But the Sucks have been a dirty-ass team for a long time now. And it’s disgusting that the league lets them get away with it.

My opinion of Johansen went up exponentially with this statement…

“I’m just trying to go out there and play hockey and it [stinks] when you’ve got to pull a stick out of your groin every shift.”

Wake up, NHL execs. This is the role model you want for the kids entering the game, not Kessler, Perry or Gutsless.

Kesler ends up with the right team in the Ducks. He’s always played a gutless douchnozzle style. Fits right in with the most penalized team in the league. I still find it difficult to believe half the dirty penalties that do not get called on them.

It’s time to get my believer fixed. Eh?
