It's difficult to fathom the impact Gordie Howe has had on the game of hockey. More than any player from his era (since Howe played in five decades, it's problematic deciding exactly when his era was), Howe was a completely unique player. The young boy from Floral, Saskatchewan, entered the NHL in the post-World War II era, when the NHL was still in its nascent period in terms of its popularity in the United States.
