Team USA Will Be Introduced At The Winter Classic

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - While the International Ice Hockey Federation today announced that the deadline to submit rosters for the men's ice hockey competition for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games has been extended to Jan. 7, USA Hockey will move forward with plans to announce both its men’s and women’s Olympic hockey teams on Jan. 1 live on NBC Sports at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich., as part of the National Hockey League’s Winter Classic.

“We look forward to celebrating the American player through the announcement of our Olympic teams as part of the NHL Winter Classic,” said Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. “It will be an extraordinary stage with an Original Six matchup, a record crowd, a worldwide television audience, the great pageantry of the event itself, and of course the unveiling of both our men’s and women’s Olympic teams.”

The women’s roster will be unveiled in the second intermission of the game, while the men’s team will be revealed on the ice at the conclusion of the Winter Classic.
