Team Grades Before The Holiday Break

from Sam McCaig of The Hockey News,

Grades are based on each team’s performance as well as how they’ve fared versus to pre-season expectations.

Tampa Bay Lightning:
The Bolts have been at the head of the NHL class since opening day. They could have a player up for every major individual award, not to mention the inside track on the Presidents’ Trophy and Stanley Cup.

Vegas Golden Knights: No team in the league has overachieved more than the Knights. A first-year expansion team that was reduced to playing its fourth-string goalie for most of the first two months, and they’re within sight of top spot in the West. Amazing.

It’s a better grade for the Wings than I expected… but I’d also say it’s an accurate grade and assessment of our team

I would have given them a C- at best and mostly likely a D.

Blashill should have been fired around Thanksgiving or half the team jettisoned. On the other hand, the bad contracts make it impossible to get rid of any players. That’s on KH.

His ineptitude in not making the hard decision to fire Blashill is worse, in my opinion than some of the bad contracts. The young guys are are not getting the kind of mentoring and coaching they need and too many young guys are flaming out under this imposter.

Yes, I know some of the prospects didn’t and will not pan out but this team’s country club atmosphere is not conducive to developing young players. The glory day of vets being the hardest workers on the team….and most deserving of ice time…. are long gone. Seniority seems to rule the locker room.

Well, that’s your own fault for thinking they’d be better.

I guess it depends on whether you base the grades on expectation or performance.

Based on performance, I’d have a hard time giving the Wings anything above a D.

Based on my expectations, a C/C- is is pretty accurate. They are performing about what I expected given this lineup, coaching and management.
