from TSN,
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan Strome scored first period goals and Malcolm Subban was stellar in net with 32 saves as Canada edged the United States 2-1 at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Subban, who's had his share of critics before the start of the tournament, recorded a .973 save percentage in the victory, compared to just .893 in each of his first two games. And he was busy in the early going, with 24 saves through the first 40 minutes that included a breakaway stop on John Gaudreau in the first period and killing a four-minute double minor in the second.
"Obviously, (our) goaltending has been under the radar for the last couple of years," Team Canada head coach Steve Spott told TSN. "So it was great for his confidence and for our hockey club that when you need him to get the job done, he's able to close the door. He was deserving of being the star tonight."
