from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,
- Two league executives insist there is actually heat on Washington GM George McPhee and coach Adam Oates. Yes, we’ve heard this before, but you have to think at some point or another the blame will fall at McPhee’s feet. Last season at the deadline, he sent top prospect Filip Forsberg to the Predators in exchange for Martin Erat and Michael Latta. That was viewed as a panic move. Maybe it is time to move on from McPhee.
- Some are wondering aloud if the play of Rangers G Henrik Lundqvist early in the season has anything to do with the fact he’s trying to negotiate a contract extension. He’s set to become a UFA and that can be a distraction. Lundqvist certainly hasn’t been what anybody expected so far this season.
- Hasn’t taken long for Montreal GM Marc Bergevin to start sniffing around the league. He has been looking for a blueliner, which has led many to believe that D Douglas Murray may be more injured than the Habs are letting on .
- While the Sabres decided to keep GM Darcy Regier at the helm and coach Ron Rolston behind the bench, the slow start in Buffalo has many wondering if something might finally give. Talk will not go away that Montreal assistant GM Rick Dudley would be a top candidate to take over the Sabres operation if owner Terry Pegula decided to make a change.
