This is everyone’s worst nightmare.

All of the above…how do you prevent tragic accidents like this?  You can’t.  I also feel for the player who hit Keller.

from the AP via the Globe and Mail,

The club said that Keller had not suffered brain damage and was due to be released from intensive care soon.

“He’s awake, able to speak normally and has been informed of the results of the accident,” they said.

From what I understand Schnyder (player who deiliverd hit),  and Keller are friends

From the AP article via the Globe and Mail “after being cross checked from behind into the boards”  A tragic incident but Keller did put on the brakes to try to hit Schnyder.  Schnyder used his forearm/elbow to hit back.  I’m not placing blame on anyone, but for a report to state he was crosschecked from behind into the boards is irresponsible and sensational.
