John Ruddy and Trinity Development are seeking more than $1 billion in damages from Ottawa Senators owners Eugene Melnyk and Capital Sports Management Inc., a subsidiary of the NHL hockey team.
The Tuesday legal filing, which includes a statement of defence and a counterclaim, is a response to the $700-million suit launched by Melnyk on Nov. 23 against Ruddy, Trinity and others over the “failed joint venture” between Capital Sports Management and Trinity Development.
These are two of the main partners in RendezVous LeBreton, which had been negotiating with the National Capital Commission to transform LeBreton Flats into a new community with an NHL arena at its core.
