Successful Surgery For Dan Girardi And Marc Staal

NEW YORK, June 5, 2015 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Dan Girardi underwent a bursa excision on his ankle and Marc Staal had a bone chip removed from his ankle. Both players are expected to be fully recovered prior to the start of training camp. The surgeries were performed yesterday by Dr. David Levine at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Girardi, 31, skated in all 82 regular season games with the Rangers in 2014-15, registering four goals and 16 assists for 20 points, along with a plus-12 rating and 22 penalty minutes. He is tied with Brian Leetch for the most seasons in which a Ranger has played all 82 games since the NHL adopted an 82-game schedule in 1995-96 (five). Girardi tied for sixth in the NHL in blocked shots (184) and ranked fifth among NHL defensemen in hits (224) in 2014-15.

Staal, 28, skated in 80 regular season games with the Rangers in 2014-15, registering five goals and 15 assists for 20 points, along with a plus-18 rating and 42 penalty minutes. He established a career-high in plus/minus rating. Staal ranked third on the Rangers in average ice time (21:08) and led the team in average even strength ice time (18:49) in 2014-15.
