Kukla's Korner Hockey

After 50 games, the Montreal Canadiens have 27 wins. Points in ten of their last 12 games. Not bad. Yet they sit perilously close to being outside of the playoffs: three points separate them from the ninth place Carolina Hurricanes. Considering the injuries they’ve sustained thus far, management has to be happy with the team’s performance; however, health, and potential roster changes, are likely going to make or break the Habs chances for a playoff push in 2011.
One bright note is the addition of PK Subban to the all star weekend. After all the criticism he’s endured, from his own coach, players and the media, it’s a vindication of sorts for Subban, a player who has held down the Canadiens blue line in the face of injury after injury.
That said, perhaps Subban wishes he had the weekend off. After a gruelling 50 games, I know I would.
So, in the spirit of all star breaks, I’m taking a short one of my own, driving five hours due north to go winter camping - talk about ideas that sounded better when the plans were made in August.
Lots of excitement to come, as we’re only four weeks from the trade deadline. Does Pierre Gauthier have any cards left up his sleeves? We’ll find out. Enjoy the all star game, and I’ll be back and blogging next week.
