Can’t stand them as a team, but good for them.

The cancellation and deletion of every and any thing that might cause a very small minority of mentally suspect wilting flowers “offense” is utterly ridiculous.

Damien Coc tweet,

There is little or no difference between the offensive logo of Washington’s NFL team and Chicago’s NHL team. This is about money and merchandising, not the fiction Chicago’s NHL team is coming up with to justify its racist name/logo.

Perhaps there is little difference between the logos but I, personally, would say there is a huge difference between “Redskins” and “Black Hawks”.

I’m not the biggest fan of cancel culture but at the same time I’m all for getting rid of some stuff that is highly offensive and very public. To me, Redskins has always been wrong.

I can’t read the statement, bkz I don’t have a Twitter acct. But I thought I’d read that the NHL team had talked with the local Blackhawk tribe about using the name, and them being fine with it a long time ago, like the Florida Seminoles.

But the term “redskin” has never been anything but a racial slur, and it’s definitely not “honoring” anyone, the way you could argue for a team name like Braves or Chiefs.

And I find it hilarious and sad at the same time that people get offended when people are offended by a team name that is, part and parcel, a term that has been used for centuries to denigrate a very large group of people, based on their skin color.

No kidding, huh.

But solid, very well drafted statement by the Hawks. They certainly seem to be in a different, far more defensible position than the Redskins or Indians

Of course it’s largely about money and merchandising
re: the Blackhawks. Of course they don’t want to risk any of that.

But agreed: this should be what a reasonable distinction
looks like. If the name and logo itself are not disrespectful
and there is in addition a legit history of trying to in part pay homage
- and it’s backed up with actually respectful, positive, inclusive
communication and involvement to benefit people represented by
the symbol and name, that seems fair enough.
