ALFREDSSON, KIPRUSOFF AND JOKINEN NAMED NHL’S THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
Each Monday, the NHL will recognize three players who delivered the League’s top performances over the past week.
FIRST STAR – DANIEL ALFREDSSON, RW, OTTAWA SENATORS
Alfredsson led all scorers for the week with nine points (three goals, six assists), including the game winning goals in all three Senators victories. He began the week with one goal in a 5-2 win over Boston on Jan. 9. In New York on Jan 11, he notched one goal and two assists as Ottawa defeated the Rangers 6-4 and he followed that with one goal and four assists in a 8-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Jan 13. Alfredsson is second on the Senators with 46 points (15-31—46) in 42 games played. The Senators, 9-3-1 in their past 13 games, are third in the Northeast Division with 54 points (26-19-2).
ECOND STAR – MIIKKA KIPRUSOFF, G, CALGARY FLAMES
Kiprusoff backstopped the Flames to three victories, posting a 1.33 goals-against average and .949 save percentage. He made 26 saves in recording his fifth shutout of the season as Calgary defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-0 on Jan. 9. He made 27 saves in a 7-3 Flames win over the Colorado Avalanche, Jan. 11 and finished the week by making 21 saves in a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers, Jan. 13. Kiprusoff has posted four consecutive victories, improving his season record to 22-14-3 with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. The Flames lead the Northwest Division with 52 points (24-15-4).
THIRD STAR—OLLI JOKINEN, C, FLORIDA PANTHERS
Jokinen recorded points in all three Panthers games as Florida won two of three starts for the week. On Jan. 10, he tallied his second hattrick of the season as the Panthers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2. He followed that up with two goals the next night in a 6-4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and finished the week recording one assist in a 7-3 victory over the Washington Capitals on Jan. 13. Jokinen leads the Panthers and is 17th in NHL scoring with 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists) in 47 games.
