from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
A group of people wait outside the Stars' locker room after every home game, invited by players to enjoy some hockey and get a glimpse of their heroes.
Win or lose, players greet the handful of fans who are part of the various charitable organizations the team supports.
"It's amazing," said Tom Holy, Stars vice president in charge of communications. "Before I came here, I had never seen a team do that, at least not after every game."
Holy said Tyler Seguin started the tradition with Seguin's Stars, a group that partners with the Southwest Wheelchair Athletic Association to help area fans who are dealing with physical handicaps. It has spread, and now the postgame handshakes include several groups that players have selected for personal reasons.
"I think the thing that impresses me most is that we didn't go to the players and make suggestions; they came to us," Holy said. "Tyler had a cause he wanted to support, he wanted to greet fans after games, and so that's what we do. And all of the players are involved in their own way."
