Kukla's Korner Hockey

Star Gazing

from the Star Tribune,
It was just so darn un-Wildlike. Aggressive, not conservative. Bustling for worthwhile purchases, not bargains. In a span of two weeks in late June to early July, the Wild, after spending a league-low $25 million in the year following the lockout, doled out an astonishing $64.85 million in long-term contracts by acquiring forwards Pavol Demitra, Mark Parrish and Branko Radivojevic, defensemen Kim Johnsson and Keith Carney and re-signing star Marian Gaborik. Fans were stunned. The mouths of hockey writers, who relied on the "cheap" Wild always being there, are still ajar.
