Stalock In Goal For The Sharks And No Vlasic

from Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea,

Sharks goalie Alex Stalock will make his first career playoff start on Monday night, while defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic did not make the trip and will not play due to an upper body injury suffered on Saturday. The Sharks will try for a third time to close out the Kings in Monday night’s Game 6 at Staples Center, and lead the best-of-seven first round series, three games to two.

Stalock has come on in relief of Niemi in each of the last two games, stopping all 26 shots he’s faced, including 22 in Game 5.

That should help.

“I think so, playing in both rinks, too,” Stalock said. “Getting a feel for the series, the speed and intensity. Obviously, get a chance to start tonight, and it will be a lot of fun.”

“It’s a chance to close out the series, and that’s the ultimate goal.”

Your starting goalie giving up TWENTY goals in the first four games of a playoff series? Nice.

Agree completely, SK77. Tonight will be the perfect opportunity for Stalock to make a name for himself in a big game and put to rest those uneasy feelings that Pattie and Jumbo Joe are probably experiencing right now as they count the hours until the puck drops.

But seriously, Stalock played well in the regular season.

Nothing against Stalock (or Niemi), but I would love nothing more than to see San Jose completely bomb out in this series after going up 3-0 in epic fashion.

Ah, well that serves me right for figuring that you were “Shark 77”...I was all ready to welcome the pride of Worchester, Taylor Doherty, to the blog.

Obviously I’m hoping for a royal miracle but I’m not cocky enough to call it, though now would be a perfect time for that patented Kings streakiness to kick in with 5 or 6 more wins in a row.
