Staggered But Still Standing

via the CP,
The old home of Bobby Hull and the Winnipeg Jets is not going down without a fight. Officials in Winnipeg tried this morning to implode the hockey rink with explosive charges. The interior concrete seating decks fell but the corner pillars and roof are still standing. A police officer says the city will try again another day to finish the job.

The four corner pillars of the building remained upright, though the interior concrete decks did fall during the controlled blast. City engineers resorted to cables and heavy equipment to pull down the remnants of the old Winnipeg Arena. A couple of attempts to finish the job failed when cables snapped, but the structure finally gave way.
