While the snow covered Winter Classic scenes over recent years have felt natural, this couldn’t look more gimmicky.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL?!

I hope it absolutely downpours for this game.

via NHL PR; complete with beach volleyball & roller hockey

The level of blatant mockery is amazing.

The beach volleyball court and roller hockey rink are the back-up plan. When people arrive on the 25th and find that the ice has all melted, they’ll at least have something to watch.

And BTW, the long-range forecast for the 25th is sunny and 72°. The players will all be wearing Bermuda shorts and RayBans. Ridiculous.

Meh. Say what you want but I’m guessing that this will be another huge success for the NHL. It’ll rake in a ton of money and draw good ratings. I think that it’s obnoxious but I also plan to watch at least part of the game itself.

I agree that the inline rink and volleyball are gimmicky, but the whole game is clearly a gimmick, so why not?  As for all of the melting jokes, Dan Craig has said their “ice truck” and its compressors can make ice in temperatures, I believe, up to 70 degrees.  Considering that this game is at night, it shouldn’t be an issue.  Keep in mind that most NHL rinks are 65 degrees or so anyway, probably higher when they’re at capacity.  It’s all about the compressors…

My guess if we match my posts against yours, I would trail far behind you when it comes to the bitter negativity score.

Well, don’t just make a “guess.” Prove it.
