Told Sheldon Souray will not be bought out if he clears. He is owed 4.5M per for 2 more years. His cap hit is 5.4M

Maybe they couldn’t get anyone to take him in a trade at that cap hit and with his injury history, but found someone who’s willing to take him off their hands at half price on re-entry waivers. Can they do that in the off season?

would be more happy if horcoff was also put on waivers. if no one claims souray i will tell him to go home and sit out the remainder of the deal. i dont want him any where near our young players.

According to Lebrun:
Oilers have zero interest in eating half of Souray’s contract via re-entry waivers. They want to lose his full contract on normal waivers.

Well, if the Oilers put him on re-entry waivers if he isn’t claimed by any team while on waivers, and then a team picks him up, not much the Oilers can do about it. Would have to eat 1/2 his salary.
The only thing I see is they work out a deal with another team before it gets to that point.
