Something Special With The Vegas Golden Knights

02/27/2018 at 5:23pm EST

from Arash Markazi of ESPN,

The fact that the Golden Knights were sellers and not buyers at the trade deadline means that they will have some free agents -- including Neal, Perron and Sbisa -- who will have big decisions to make in the offseason. All three said that their first choice would be to stay in Las Vegas.

"It's always a little weird at the trade deadline but our team is definitely a special group," Neal said. "We've been working for each other all year and feel things will stay the same and we'll continue to build and work toward our goal. I love it here and I hope everything works out so I can stay here for a long time."

Not only was McPhee aggressive at the trade deadline but Vegas owner Bill Foley says he will pay any price to bring a championship to Las Vegas -- which suggests that he will continue to be aggressive in the offseason with free agents, whether it's his own or players on other teams.

added 5:27pm, Gary Lawless of the website of the VGK on Tomas Tatar,

It's no secret two of the Golden Knights top offensive players, James Neal and David Perron, are pending unrestricted free agents which makes their future with the club unknown. Should one or both not return - Tatar provides scoring cover for the future as well as the here and now.

"He's a younger player, only 27. He's quick, competitive and he can score," said McPhee. "We didn't want to trade draft picks for someone that's not going to be here after the summer. He has three years left on his contract and we're happy about that. Where he plays in the lineup is up to the coaching staff. He can play left and right side and he can play up and down the lineup. We just added another good player to our team and again he's a mature player but he's still young."

Assistant GM Kelly McCrimmon says Tatar has a competitive side which makes him tough to play against and a boon to the team which employs him.
