The mood was sombre across the city a day after the Dawson College shootings and even the usually upbeat opening of the Montreal Canadiens camp was quieter than usual. Players took their physical exams and fitness tests at the Bell Centre yesterday, but conversations drifted to the shocking events 24 hours before, when a gunman killed one student and wounded at least 20 in a shooting rampage about a kilometre away. "Today's a day of mourning. I don't think there's any question," GM Bob Gainey said. "When you're in the heart of the problem here in Montreal, it's more pronounced. "We can see it and feel it all around us. But I don't really relate that to the start of training camp or whatever might be happening in someone's life. It's a disaster and a tragedy that will need to be worked through."continued
