from Michael Taikos at the Toronto Sun,
From Claude Giroux and Andrew Ladd searching for their first points to John Gibson and Steve Mason’s struggles in net, here is a look at the slumps some players are having, while keeping in mind that everyone is a game or two away from being a goat or the GOAT.
Claude Giroux, Philadelphia
The Flyers have managed to put just two pucks past Braden Holtby in their first-round series against the Capitals, and the offensive struggles start with their captain. Giroux, who has no points in three playoff games, is in a drought that stretches further than that. The last time he scored was on March 28. He has no goals and three assists in his last nine games. It’s a little out of character for a player who has scored the most combined points in the NHL in the last five regular seasons.
Jaromir Jagr, Florida
He was praised for his oddball fitness regime and his ability to turn back time during the regular season, where he scored 27 goals and 66 points and had his best year since 2007-08. But time might be catching up to the 44-year-old, who had is without a point in the playoffs. He’s getting his chances, with nine shots in three games against the Islanders. But along with 37-year-old Roberto Luongo, whose save percentage dropped from .922 to .907 in the playoffs, he is looking a bit tired after playing three games in five nights.
