Turns out the post-Christmas Rangers are just like the pre-Christmas Rangers.

Because the 5-3 loss at the hands of the Predators on Monday night at Bridgestone Arena to begin the after-break schedule looked like so many before it — so many in this 16-game stretch that has now seen them go 4-10-2, stretching as well into a eight-game road winless streak of 0-6-2.

The going gets bad, the Rangers get worse, and then the fallout is more consumed by confusion of where that steady team went, and if they’ll ever come back.

“We don’t have enough guys right now bringing it,” said coach Alain Vigneault, who left the bench twice for short spurts during the game and looked unwell after it, though insisted he was fine. “We have some guys that are battling hard, but we don’t have enough guys bringing their ‘A’ game to the table, and we’re going to need to figure it out real quickly here.”
