It says, “gritty,” “energetic,” “rough and tumble.” All are pretty accurate descriptions of Branko Radivojevic, the latest in a slew of recent signings by the Minnesota Wild that are beginning to make October 5 look like Christmas morning. Radivojevic, who spent the last two NHL seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, stands 6-foot-2, 207 pounds, and uses every ounce of it when digging in the corners and hassling opponents.

The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with free agent defenceman Daniel Tjarnqvist on a one-year contract. The 6’2”, 200-pound native of Umea, Sweden spent the 2005-06 NHL season as a member of the Minnesota Wild. In 60 games with the Wild, the 29-year-old blueliner scored 3-15-18 with a career-high 32 penalty minutes. He averaged 19:46 minutes of ice time per game to rank third on the Wild roster and second among defenceman.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have re-signed centre R.J. Umberger to a new two-year contract. "We think that R.J. Umberger proved that he is a good, solid National Hockey League player with tremendous upside and he is only going to get better," said GM Bob Clarke in making the announcement.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Ty Conklin and defenseman Tomas Kloucek to two-way National Hockey League - American Hockey League contracts, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Thursday. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed
