4 points in the series, no goals.

Over the entire playoffs - a minus player. Played a lot of minutes (including 4 per game on the PK), but not even the best possession player on the team.

The biggest case of the league catering to a superstar instead of voting a deserving player since Datsyuk got jobbed for the Hart in 09.

Murray, Jones, Letang. Crosby gets shut down in the playoffs again only to have the league pucker up. Fraud of an MVP choice, and of course this will elevate his career. Asterisk this crap.

They didn’t choose Kessel to avoid a mass suicide in Toronto.

The most fraudulent pick of a Conn Smythe winner in SCF history.

You guys must not have been watching the games because Crosby was clearly the best player on the ice. The number of highlight reel passes that literally no one else in the world can make that go unseen in stats (due to lack of finish/Jones) is unbelieveBle. His defensive play was remarkable, and his work ethic set the example. You can definitely argue other players, but there is definitely a sound argument for the best player having been the most valuable even if he did not lead statistically.

One of the most boring SCF’s I’ve ever watched.

Couldn’t care less who won the Conn Smythe.

bettman getting boo’d by the Sharks fans made me smile though…..those fans should get a trophy.
cool grin

They had to give it to Crosby so he wouldn’t lie down on the ice kicking and screaming.

That trophy is Kessels.  When Crosby and Malkin were skating around with their heads up their asses for 2 and a half rounds, Kessel and Bonino were getting it done shift after shift.

So now is the one time they throw out statistics? Now is the one time they ignore +/-?

Poppycock.

I thought it made sense.  Crosby dominated on the puck, especially in the final.  His game was on the next level end to end throughout the playoffs.  Murray was serviceable but it wasn’t like he was standing on his head at any point, the Sharks barely even got to him even in the games they won.  Goalie vs goalie, I thought Jones outplayed him.  You could have made the case for a bunch of different guys, and in the end, its reasonable to give it to the captain. But he was the best player on the ice for the Pens every game.

You may as well have said “He’s great in the room!” as a reason.

Sorry no, there truly is no reasoning you can come up with that makes any sense that isn’t “league shenanigans”.

Haha I don’t think it was league shenanigans.  Its voted on by the media.  If you want to say the canadian media wouldn’t give it to kessel, okay sure.  Crosby deserved it though.  He was the best player on the ice pretty much every game.  He was virtually flawless.

Slumpy, boring?! There’s no way you were watching. This was one of the most fast-paced, back and forth Cup finals we’ve had in years.

Sid was a beast on the puck, and there’s no chance they even sniff the finals without him. Kessel may have been equally or more deserving, but Sid was clearly the best player.

‘He held onto the puck and was good at passing!’

Would be a great reason if it’d ever been used before.

Naturally, a Wings fan would be critical of Crosby winning the Conn Smythe, but then point to Datsyuk, a guy who never scored 100 points in a season, as having been robbed of the Hart.  Kettle?  The phone’s for you, its the pot.

Crosby may have been the best player on the ice for the finals, but I’m not sure he was for the entire playoffs.

I thought it made more sense to give it to Kessel.

One could also make a losing MVP argument for Jones. That guy was a monster.

San Jose looked like it was too satisfied finally getting to the final. They were constantly outplayed. The Penguins obviously peaked at the right time. This final has to be bitter sweet for Fluery.

Except for the fact that Datsyuk’s case can be quantified, unlike Crosby’s this year. Also, Datsyuk did not have a top scoring partner with him like Ovie (Backstrom) and Malkin (Crosby) did.

Datsyuk was absolutely the best player on his team 08-09. We cannot make that case for Crosby in this playoffs.

I’m sure Crosby’s case this year CAN be quantified, but I have yet to see anyone actually do it. Which goes back to my point that usually, the awards voted on have a quantity based rationale. This one doesn’t.

I mean, Toews won scoring 4 points in the 2010 final.  He had ten more points, but even still, if you just go by the numbers, you’d have to give it to Logan Couture, which…nobody is going to argue for that.  Kessel had 3 more points than Crosby.  Kind of a toss up to me in that case.  Crosby was the best player on the ice, especially in the finals.  If the difference is only 3 points, I think it’s fair to give it to Crosby.  He’s the captain and he drove the bus and took the top matchups every time he stepped on the ice.  Kessel was tremendous and definitely deserving, but I don’t think he straight up dominated the game end to end the way Crosby did.

I agree, even though I hated watching it being played by the Sharks and the Pens. You can’t argue with the intensity at which the entire series was played. The Wings have a long way to go to get even close to being able to playing at that level. Right now, only Larkin, AA, Abby and (maybe) Z seem to have that in them.

As for Crysbaby winning the Conn Smythe? That uncalled for slash to the back of Thornton’s leg on the opening face-off should disqualify him. As a hockey player, he’s a great talent. As a person, he always was (and continues to be) a punk.

Admittedly I didn’t watch the finals once Tampa and Dallas were out, I couldn’t stomach watching Cindy Crysby or Chumpo Joe Thorton play for a cup.

That said, how the kid Murray didn’t get picked shows the bias the league has towards #87. The kid has more playoff wins than regular season wins. If he’s not in net, the Pens do not get by Tampa.

I actually thought Crosby was fairly disciplined.  I thought that slash was just like “eff you old man, its over” after all the cheap shots thornton took on him that series.  If anyone came out of that series looking bad it was Joe Thornton.  Always was a loser, always will be a loser.  I don’t care how much he tries to buy into Brent Burns insufferable hipster d-bag schtick, but no matter how big of a beard he grows, he’ll never be good enough.  He couldn’t find the score sheet when it counted and seemed to be more focused on cheap shots and trying to get the pens off their game and he couldn’t.

Murray was outplayed in every series and definitely outplayed by Martin Jones.  The story is that its surprising he did as well as he did.  He never stole a game and lets face it, he was barely tested.  SJS had 1 shot in the final 16 mins of game 6.  He was solid, but wasn’t even remotely the reason the Pens won.  Its not like Fleury magically forgot how to play.  His injury sitch forced them to play murray and he kept them alive down the stretch.
