NEW YORK (December 15) To mark the return of the 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration in Dallas, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation’s Third Annual “Ace’s Got Skills” competition will bring its multi-city tour to Dallas, in conjunction with the Dallas Stars.
Four local competitions will be held through December and January at various Dr Pepper StarCenter facilities throughout the Dallas/Forth Worth area. Winners from each local event will advance to the regional competition which takes place January 7 at the Farmers Branch Dr Pepper StarCenter. Regional winners will be acknowledged on-ice during the Dodge Nitro/NHL SuperSkills event, held on Tuesday, Jan. 24, as part of the 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration.
Modeled after the NHL’s All-Star SuperSkills Competition, the program gives boys and girls ages 9-12 the opportunity to test their skill level in skating, puck-handling, and shooting. The events are operated by RDW Sports Marketing, Inc., and a portion of all registration fees will go to the Ace Bailey Children’s Foundation.
The “Ace’s Got Skills” program is named after Garnet “Ace” Bailey, an 11-year NHL veteran and a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Boston Bruins. Bailey, who also served as Director of Pro Scouting for the Los Angeles Kings, perished in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The inaugural “Ace’s Got Skills” program was launched in New York City in memory of his passing.
Sports Illustrated Kids will serve as the promotional partner for the Top Skills Award, presented to the participant with the highest collective score.
