If Brodeur doesn't get an asterisk (which I hear can be quite painful), then Alexander Ovechkin should have 54 goals, not 48, through the first 72 games of the season. The stats are all part of the not-so-very-well-thought-out world of the shootout sideshow, which has been embraced by almost everyone around the NHL. When Brodeur beat the Flyers, 4-1, on Saturday, it marked his 35th win of the season and put him in fourth place on the career victories list. However, eight of those 35 wins this season came in the shootout, which in the old days (before 2005-06) would have resulted in a tie. That means Brodeur should have 27 wins, not 35.read on
