from Mark Purday of the Mercury News,
So what gives? Where are the goals? Where are the players who are supposed to get the goals? Logan Couture gets a break here because he is playing with a broken mouth. He threw off his full cage mask Sunday and seemed a little more effective. But you can’t count on him to be fully effective until he can at least eat a sandwich without wincing. But what about the other playoff scorers that Shark fans have known and loved over the years?
Where is Patrick Marleau? He’s playing decent defense like the rest of the Sharks but is still without a point in this series. He went shotless Sunday. He’s got to find a way to make more impact.
Where is Brent Burns? The league’s best defenseman during the regular season is finding it hard to get his booming shots from the point through to the net because the Oilers are crowding him and after getting eight shots on goal in Game 1 has recorded just two and three in the last two games, respectively. DeBoer noted that the Sharks have done a fairly good job of containing Oilers’ star Connor McDavid and that the Oilers are doing the same with Burns.
“If they’re going to concentrate on shutting down him, somebody else has to get the job done . . . just like them,” DeBoer said.
Where is Mikkel Boedker? Not even dressed, actually. It was also a bad night for the Sharks’ two biggest free agent signings from last offseason. Boedker, who was supposed to bring dynamic swiftness to the team, was scratched. Schlemko, who was supposed to provide steady defense and puck movement, made a shaky choice on one play and . . . well, we have covered that.
