Shane Doan Ready To Return From Suspension

from Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic,
“Obviously you never want to be in the position I’m in right now with eight games to go and miss those three,” Doan said. “But it is what it is. It’s over. Now I have to get ready to go.”
Doan will return to the ice Thursday with his teammates when they host the current top dog in the Pacific Division, the San Jose Sharks, but he’ll be faced with a new challenge—how to remain a physical player and not get penalized for it.
“He obviously has to be aware of how he’s hitting people and where he’s hitting people, and hopefully him missing a couple games will tweak that memory in him,” coach Dave Tippett said. “But he still has to be a hard player. He’s not going to be the same player if he tip-toes around out there. I certainly don’t expect him to do that.”
Already this season, Doan has racked up 198 hits, which slots him 22nd in the league. Only four players with more goals than Doan have more hits, hinting that among goal-scorers Doan is of the toughest breed.
That picture paints an unusual dichotomy. Off the ice, he’s respected as one of the game’s finer leaders, a class act and humble man who spends his summers on a horse ranch in Alberta.
But in the past two seasons, Doan’s on-ice record reads two suspensions and a fine.
