The NHL's "Department of Player Safety" released a video explaining why New York Rangers forward Rick Nash was not suspended for a high hit on Florida Panthers forward Tomas Kopecky:

They didn’t suspend him because it’s Rick Nash.  It’s illegal to suspend a New York Rangers player or coach for anything according to the latest CBA.  That clause is what took so long to hammer out.  The rest of the deal was agreed to in October.
