from Tom Reed of the Columbus Dispatch,
Sergei Bobrovsky said in the offseason he lost “eight kilos,” which for the metrically impaired translates to 17 pounds.
The Blue Jackets’ fitness fanatic wasn’t close to overweight. But in an effort to curb his rash of groin injuries, the goaltender chose to reduce the muscle mass he had built over the past few years.
“That was one of the purposes coming into the season,” he said Wednesday. “I feel good now. We’ll see.”
The club is yet to release the official weights of players – Bobrovsky was listed at 6-foot-2, 199 pounds in the spring – but coach John Tortorella acknowledged the goalie is one of several Blue Jackets to shed significant pounds. Winger Nick Foligno and defenseman Dalton Prout are among others who will look leaner in the team photo.
