Senators Were Close To Making A Deal

02/03/2014 at 9:03am EST

from Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun,

Bryan Murray thought he had a deal done Saturday.

Now, the Senators GM is starting to believe he won't be making a trade before the Olympic break.

"We had a couple of teams I was talking fairly serious to about a smaller type deal that would add one player to our team, but it doesn't appear it's going to happen at this point," said Murray, who is actively seeking a winger to play with captain Jason Spezza. "As of now, we are what we are.

"I've talked to a number of managers, I think there's a lot of people just saying we'd like to do something, but there's nothing on the horizon right now."

One player known to be of interest to the Senators is Buffalo winger Matt Moulson, who has suffered an arm injury and is unlikely to play again until action resumes after the Sochi Games.
