via AnaheimDucks.com,
Teemu Selanne suffered a fractured jaw in the third period of Anaheim’s 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins at Honda Center, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle told reporters after the game.
Carlyle said Selanne “unavailable for a number of days, weeks here going forward” and that the fracture will be surgically repaired tomorrow. “We’ll have to see what kind of timeframe they are going to give us with it,” he said.
Selanne was hit in the face by the puck with 8:29 left in the game following a shot by teammate Ryan Whitney that deflected off the stick of Boston’s Miroslav Satan and bounced off the ice. He went down to the ice holding his face and was helped to the locker room while holding a towel to his bleeding face. He did not return to the game.
“It’s a tough loss,” Carlyle said. “The puck hit the bottom of somebody’s stick, went and hit the ice and then bounced back up and hit him. It’s one of those things that you’d very rarely would see unfortunately for Teeme and unforunately for us. We finally started to get some bodies back in our lineup and get our lines setted. That is just the way it goes and injuries are a part of it.”
