Season Ticket Holders In Washington Speak Out

from Katie Carrera of Capitals Insider,
Julian Brunner from Petworth, a four-year season ticket holder in Section 410:
“In the past [Capitals owner Ted] Leonsis has spoken about how owning a team you should act like a steward for the city in caring for it, and he’s also spoken previously about how rewarding your key players is an important element for getting their buy in and building a winning franchise. Those words seem like a joke now that he’s willing to cost us fans a season of hockey (and a season the primes of our best 2-3 players) [to] put the screws to the players union and try to get them to not honor full deals that he himself signed. I’m strongly considering giving up my tickets because it makes sick to think that my money is supporting his behavior.”
Angie Secrest from Highland, Md., a five-year season ticket holder in Section 113:
“Sadly ‘this’ lockout has left me feeling incredible negative about the NHL and how it is run. To me someone should have been looking out for the best interest of the sport, a third party that wasn’t siding with players or owners but that honestly was looking out for hockey and it’s growth. This is not something that I see Gary Bettman being capable of, he is just another greedy businessman looking to line his pockets. I love hockey, but I just can’t stomach the idea that any of my money would go to any of these owners or the NHL ever again.

Very relevant because it demonstrates the newer fans (the fans the league created after the last lockout) are pissed off.
And you say us “Wangs fans” have red-colored glasses on. *eyeroll.

Their money isn’t as good as those who’ve had tickets for decades?

Because they’ve only had season tickets for four or five years means their views should be dismissed?
EP is just angry because he can’t find four or five people in Pittsburgh that care about the Pens due to the fact the NFL is going on.

There’s really no point in discussing it. Red Winger has his mind made up about it, even if proven wrong on nearly every occasion.

Not going to defend Red Winger’s assertion here cuz it’s not the point and I don’t really give a sh**. I just like that what he said apparently hit a soft spot on a guy who is busy being a total jackass and sneering down his nose at people who have been season ticket holders for multiple years.

What is “it”?
Global warming? Patron or Jose Cuervo? Ginger or Mary Ann?
Could you be more specific?

EP, I assume that you have your opinion on things and that you consider your opinion a valid one. Tell me, are you a season ticket holder? If so, for how many years have you held those tickets? If not, could you kindly explain to the class why your opinion is any more or less relevant than those fans that you mock?

I know for sure that the “rock-the-red crowd” at the Phone booth was nearly non-existent pre-Ovechkin (not that players help in any way to generate revenue of course). It used to be great to go watch a game and feel like you were in a library, but winning and an entertaining product is key to bringing in the casual fan.
I also doubt a team that just recently went through bankruptcy and was going to re-locate had a lot of long time season ticket holders as well. There seems to be a lot of post-Sidney bandwagoneers in the Steel City that have short memories because they haven’t been around for very long.
