Scott Niedermayer Gets His Day In New Jersey

Newark, NJ – The National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils will honor defenseman Scott Niedermayer, one of their all-time greatest players, by raising his no. 27 to Prudential Center’s rafters on Friday, December 16, when the club hosts the Dallas Stars at 7:00 PM. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.
“Scott Niedermayer’s talent and leadership played significant roles in each of our three Stanley Cup Championships,” said Lamoriello. “We look forward to welcoming the Niedermayer family back to New Jersey as we retire Scott’s no. 27.”
“You don’t really think about it, but then when you do get that call and you do have the time to think about it, it means a lot,” added Niedermayer. “I was in New Jersey for a long time and had a lot of great things happen to me there. It’s a special honor, for sure.”

Why wouldn’t they retire it when Anaheim comes to town Feb 17? I’d think that’d make more sense. Is there a reason why they wouldn’t?
