Schultz Discouraged With Benching

from Chuck Gormley of CSNWashington,
Capitals defenseman Jeff Schultz sees the writing on the wall. Now he’s just waiting for the phone call informing him he’s been traded or sent to the AHL Hershey Bears.
Schultz will be a healthy scratch for the 12th time in 14 games tonight. That, and Tuesday’s callup of Bears defenseman Tomas Kundratek, has him wondering how long he’ll remain a Capital.
“It’s very discouraging,” Schultz said Wednesday. “Maybe the team needs a spark from a guy getting called up. Maybe he’ll bring something new to the team that will help us be successful.”
And maybe the Capitals have come to the conclusion that at age 25 Schultz no longer fits into their immediate future, despite the fact he is in the second year of a four-year, $11 million contract.
Schultz said he has not asked the Capitals for a trade but wants to play somewhere and is leaving those discussions to his agent.
