Saskin Answers Questions

When Ted Saskin was named to replace his boss, Bob Goodenow, as executive director of the NHLPA on July 28, it was the last check-off on the NHL owners' wish list. Considered to be reasonable and cooperative — traits few would use to describe his predecessor — Saskin was the NHLPA's lead negotiator during the nearly yearlong lockout. After months of following Goodenow's lead and speaking out against a salary cap and linkage between revenue and salaries, Saskin eventually took his direction from the players and negotiated a deal with those elements.
