Sam Gagner Asking For $5.5M In Arbitration

Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Gagner has asked for $5.5 million next season in arbitration.

Gagner, who is a restricted free agent, has an arbitration hearing scheduled for Monday.

Last season, Gagner scored 14 goals and added 24 assists for 38 points in 48 games.

Wow, 5.5 million for a Luke warm RFA. He doesn’t lack for confidence, whether his skill matches his ego is another thing.

Rubbing the sand out of my eyes and it’s still a 5.5, not 3.5

But…I assume that his agent figures is gambling that the 30% or so chance of the arb awarding this figure (which, btw, is $2MM above the 3.5 MM walk away point, so the Oilers could renounce rights if he was awarded 5.5) will be enough to lead to a last minute deal in the lower $4MM range. Maybe.  Or possibly just delusional…wouldn’t be the first.
