Sabres Honor Gare

It took the former Buffalo Sabres captain just 18 seconds to score his first NHL goal as a rookie in 1974. And on Tuesday night, the team he scored 267 goals for in more than seven seasons will officially retire the No. 18 he wore. Gare will be honoured by the Sabres before the team's game against the New York Rangers. ''It was a very nervous and intense opening shift,'' Gare said recalling his first NHL game against the Boston Bruins. ''I guess when (the goal) happened, it was kind of like maybe you belonged in the National Hockey League.''

Gare is also the subject of trivia for Red Wing fans, since he was the captain of the Wings before Yzerman…
