from Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News,
Sabres owner Terry Pegula turned 61 Tuesday and got quite a birthday present as his team snuck back into the top eight with five games left.
Buffalo is 7-0-2 in the last nine games and has won five straight for the first time since taking six in a row from Dec. 29, 2009 to Jan. 8, 2010.
That 12-game road losing streak that ruined January seems like two years ago, not two months.
“We’ve figured out how to win. That’s the difference,” said defenseman Jordan Leopold. “It’s not a real tough formula. We need everybody together for 60 minutes of hockey. Some nights it’s going to take 65 and a shootout, but tonight we scored on our opportunities.”
The win was tempered by the loss of defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, who exited with an apparent left knee injury late in the first period after an innocuous collision with Caps forward Troy Brouwer. Ehrhoff, Buffalo’s leader in ice time at 23 minutes, 19 seconds per game, was seen leaving the building with a pronounced limp.
“We’ll have our doctors evaluate him but it looks like he’s going to miss a little bit of time,” said coach Lindy Ruff. “It’s something we’ll get evaluated [today] and get a better idea.”
