NEW YORK (Nov. 21, 2011)—San Jose Sharks forward Ryane Clowe has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas in NHL Game No. 284 Saturday night in Dallas, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

Stupid… Reckless… Should be a suspension, if only to send a message

absolutely should have been a suspension.

1 game for that garbage.

It’s an embarrassment to the league.

Should NOT be a suspension. Dallas was instigating fights all night because they were losing, and have been losing.

McClennan sure as hell knows how to coach…but I’m surprised he lets crap like this go on.

Calm down, Clowe is not a dirty player.  Passionate?  Oh yeah.  Was this a bonehead move?  Oh yeah.  Do you think his feelings got the best of him?  Definitely.  Does that mean he is routinely a cheap shot artist who is gutless on the reg?  No way.  That’s called fundamental attribution error - taking one instance and applying it to the person’s personality and not the situation (yeah, I went there).

Criticize Clowe all you want for being an idiot, but to call Clowe chicken shit or the rest of the Sharks having a “piece of shit game” where they clearly dominated is inaccurate at best.

And not that it really matters, but Dallas was playing pretty chippy once they lost grip on the game and then started taking runs at guys.  Still not justifying Clowe’s action, but it does provide a little bit of background.

He won’t soon do that again.
Oh what’s that you say?  Dallas was chippy and instigating fights?
Well then, Poleaxe away Clowe.  Yeah, I support overhead stick chops if a team is “being pretty chippy”.  A little background?  He was playing in a hockey game.
