Ryan Smyth Expected To Announce His Retirement Today

It is expected Smyth will announce his impending retirement at an early afternoon press conference.
Asked if he knew what Smyth’s plans were, coach Dallas Eakins responded that he, indeed, did.
“I do,” he said simply.
Asked to expand on that, Eakins did.
“I think Ryan Smyth, with his stature and where he’s at in his career, has earned the right to let us know whether he’s going to play next year or not on his terms. It is not for me to let you guys know what I know. I have way to much respect for that young man to do that.”
