from Shawn Mitchell and Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch,
Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen was hospitalized at least once this offseason because of an accelerated heart rate, sources told The Dispatch.
General manager Jarmo Kekalainen confirmed the report but said Johansen’s current undisclosed illness is not heart-related.
Johansen left the team in Denver on Saturday and flew home to Columbus with a member of the training staff after falling ill that morning, Kekalainen said. His status for Tuesday’s game in New Jersey is not known.
After Johansen was released from a hospital near his home in British Columbia this summer, the Blue Jackets flew him to Columbus to be checked by team doctors and local cardiologists.
“They found no issues with his heart,” Kekalainen said.

The timing seems very suspect, going back to Columbus for “health reasons” right after being chewed out and benched by Torts.
