Ruff Night

from Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News,

Lindy Ruff’s wallet could be a few bucks lighter after he’s finished paying a fine for criticizing the officials, but you could understand his frustration after the game Wednesday. A terrible call in the third period shifted momentum to the Bruins and enabled them to crawl back from another two-goal deficit.

Cody McCormick was summoned by Buffalo from Portland to add some much-needed muscle and tenacity, and that’s exactly what he provided. He made a great play to set up Tim Kennedy for the first goal. And he was going hard to the net when he was taken off of his feet before slamming into Tuukka Rask, leading to goaltender interference.

Terrible call? Definitely.

Tough break? Yes.

Ruff had a legitimate beef and allowed his emotions to get the better of him, plain and simple.

Everything Ruff may say about the goaltender interference call may be true, but he has to keep his wits about him or the players feed off of his lack of comcpsure. It looked to me like he was losing control on the bench last night and it fed into the players on the ice.

The refs unecessarily interjected themselves into the game and I doubt that a call like that would or should be made if it were 1-1. That is the problem with officiating the score, you never know the impact one bad call will have and how it affects the momentum of a game and probably the series in this case.

And the call on Kaleta…

If it was anybody but Kaleta making that hit, it would not have been a penalty.
If it had been against a tema that did not lose their top offensive player due to a dirty hit just recently, that would not have been a penalty.

And when Roy gets tripped up early in the first overtime, it doesn’t get called ‘cause no ref is on the right angle to see the infraction, and a couple minutes later a sabre gets cross checked to the back of the head along the boards near their offensive blue line, and again the ref’s are looking the other way.

Very frustrating to watch after giving up ANOTHER 2 goal lead in the playoffs…
